Choosing where to continue your educational journey at aged 16 is a vital decision in terms of your future success and career prospects.

Joining RDUTC for your post-16 education will give you the unique opportunity to work closely with Hull University and some of the region’s leading employers, such as KCOM, RB, Siemens, Smith & Nephew and Spencer Group – one that you won’t have at any other college or sixth form in the area.

RDUTC is not the right place for everyone, however.

We are the right place for you if:

  • You want to study nationally recognised vocational qualifications which have been carefully selected by our employer sponsors and are, in many case, valued much more highly by them than A Levels. (All our vocational qualifications carry UCAS points for entry to degree courses at University as well as enabling progression onto apprenticeships and employment);
  • You want to study a combination of A Levels and nationally recognised vocational qualifications which will lead to an apprenticeship or degree course at University;
  • You want to study a purely vocational pathway which will lead to an apprenticeship or degree course at University
  • You have an interest in and passion for one or both of our specialisms:
    • Digital Technology including ICT, software development, web design, cyber security, ICT Infrastructure, Data Analysis
    • Engineering, including Mechatronic Engineering, Design Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Engineering Automation, Systems and Control, Engineering Manufacturing
  • You learn best through hands-on, practical activities where you are able to apply the theory you learn to a real-world context
  • You want an educational experience which mirrors the business sector – business attire not uniform; 40 hour working day; first name terms with staff
  • You want valuable work-experience opportunities which teach about the business sector from the factory floor to the board room
  • You want to learn from and be mentored by skilled and experienced industry professionals as well as highly qualified teachers
  • You want to learn in a state of the art, industry-standard learning environment

In years 12 and 13 you will spend approximately 40% of your time on academic subjects and 60% of your time on technical education.

You will study 3 or 4 qualifications chosen from the following subjects:

  • OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Engineering (Electrical and Electronic/Mehanical & Design/Automation, Systems and Control, Manufacturing)
  • BTEC National Diploma in Computer Science
  • OCR Cambridge Technical Diploma in Digital Media
  • A Level Maths
  • A Level Further Maths
  • A Level Chemistry
  • A Level Physics
  • Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)

Entry Criteria:

OCR Cambridge Technical Awards and L3 BTEC Awards:

  • 5 GCSE grades A* to C, including English and Maths (Grade 4)

A Level courses:

  • 5 GCSE grades A* to C, including English and Maths (Grade 5)
  • Grade B or higher in the subject to be studied to A Level

N.B.

  • Where students have not achieved the entry criteria, each case will be considered on an individual basis.
  • Students who have not achieved a grade C or higher in GCSE English and/or Maths must continue to study these subjects to GCSE.
