Three team members at Ron Dearing UTC are preparing to take on new roles within the school after receiving internal promotions.
Biology teacher Rachel Charlesworth, Assistant Principal, Jack Campbell and Senior Assistant Principal, Nicky Miller have all been appointed to new leadership roles which will see them support teaching and learning, curriculum development and student destinations.
Principal Sarah Pashley said: “We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Rachel, Jack and Nicky on their new positions.
“They each play an essential role in the school community and we’re excited to see what they each bring to their new roles.”

Rachel Charlesworth – New Assistant Head of Sixth Form
Rachel’s journey of progression at Ron Dearing over the years demonstrates that it is not only students who’re supported to grow and thrive in their careers, but staff too.
After spending her early career working in industry with time spent in the NHS and leading pharmaceutical companies, Rachel joined Ron Dearing in 2017 as a lab technician.
She quickly realised that she had a talent for working with students and trained to be a Biology teacher at RDUTC, gaining qualified teacher status in 2019.
She has now stepped up to the Sixth Form’s leadership team and will be supporting students in Key Stage 5 as they prepare to apply for university, apprenticeships and employment.
Rachel said: “I would’ve never considered doing my teacher training if it wasn’t for the support and encouragement of the team at Ron Dearing.
“As Assistant Head of Sixth Form, I’ll be supporting students through UCAS applications and applying for their next destination, as well as providing pastoral care, offering support and guidance to any students struggling with mental health, financial worries or other difficulties.
“I love building relationships with the students I teach, so I’m really looking forward to doing even more of that through my new role.”
Jack Campbell – New Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning
Since joining Ron Dearing six years ago, Assistant Principal and English teacher Jack Campbell has held a number of senior roles including being the Deputy Head, and subsequently Head of English. and leading on Intervention on the senior leadership team.
In his new role as Vice Principal for Teaching and Learning, Jack will be responsible for helping the school manage the changing education landscape and prepare for major reforms which are set to be introduced across GCSEs, A Levels, T Levels and V Levels in the coming years.
He said: “I’m really looking forward to collaborating with other departments in my new role and I relish the opportunity to share best practices from across the subjects to provide the best support and outcomes for our students.
“My new role will largely focus on planning and preparing for reforms in education and adapting our teaching model to accommodate those, and it will also include co-ordinating and developing the school’s intervention programme, working with students who are at risk underperforming to ensure they’re thoroughly supported to reach their full potential.”
Nicky Miller – New Vice Principal for Curriculum
New Vice Principal for Curriculum, Nicky Miller is a highly experienced educator, having spent his entire career in teaching, and holding various senior positions over the years.
As the former Senior Assistant Principal for Curriculum, Nicky’s new role will see him deepen the work he has been doing in recent years to use data and reporting to enhance the student experience.
Nicky is also responsible for timetabling across the school for both staff and students, arranging cover and managing assessment timetables.
He said: “I’m incredibly proud to have taken on this new role. I love working at Ron Dearing, it’s a brilliant school to be part of and I couldn’t see myself working anywhere else.
“I pride myself on delivering a positive impact as a teacher in the classroom, so I’m excited to widen that impact beyond my own subject, working with colleagues across the school to deliver the best results for our students.”
