Ron Dearing UTC is excited to introduce the newest member of its teaching team. Brian Lazenby joins the school community as the new Head of Digital, Media and Computing.
Brian brings with him a plethora of industry and teaching experience, having started his career as a software developer, aged 22, before moving into teaching and working across a number of schools and colleges across Hull and North Yorkshire.
His latest experience includes teaching an adult education course in data analysis at Multiverse, the leading UK teach and AI apprenticeship provider.
Brian said: “Having worked remotely for the last few years I’m really excited to get back in a classroom and experience the buzz of working with learners in person again.
“Having spent the last few years teaching adults, many whom already have qualifications and experience in the field, I’m also excited to be working with young people again, who are learning everything for the first time.
“Living in the Hull area for most of my life I’ve watched Ron Dearing’s development from the start and have been incredibly impressed by the education model which the school has developed.
“I’m looking forward to being part of the team and supporting the staff to continue to deliver the excellent education they’re known for. Ron Dearing’s teaching staff are all highly experienced so I’m sure they’ll teach me a thing or two too!”

I enjoy being outside so you’ll find me running, walking or road cycling, as well as spending time with my two children.
What is the last book you read?
I love spy novels. The last book I read was A Small Town in Germany by my favourite author John le Carré.
Packed lunch or school canteen?
Canteen!
What was your favourite subject in school?
I really enjoyed CDT which was craft design and tech. I particularly enjoyed the electronics part.
If you could invite three people to a dinner party who would you invite?
I’d invite my favourite author, John le Carré. He writes spy novels and was actually a spy himself, so I’m sure he’d have some great stories. I’d also invite Steve Jobs and Alan Turing. It would be fascinating to hear them chat about artificial intelligence, as they are from different eras.
